East Dorset Craft Club

We are a craft group meeting once a month to work together and share ideas.  Any craft welcome but at the moment we are scrapbookers and card-makers.  We also occasionally arrange demos by members of other craft clubs, and visits from mobile craft shops.

We aim to attract any crafters who want an informal day to concentrate on their hobby with a like-minded and light-hearted group of individuals – and we provide tea/coffee and biscuits and cake!

We meet one Saturday each month from 9am to 5pm. The cost for the day is £10 per person.

East Dorset National Trust (EDNT)

The East Dorset National Trust Association was founded in 1988 with its inaugural meeting held at the Barrington Centre in Ferndown, and currently has over 500 members.

The Association’s objectives are to raise funds and promote the work of the National Trust.

We organise a year round programme of social events for members to enjoy, and all profits are donated to the National Trust.

During the summer months, we arrange coach outings, monthly coffee mornings at Kingston Lacy, and other occasional events. In the winter our programme consists mainly of talks held at Ferndown and West Moors, skittles and supper evenings, a Christmas lunch and other occasional events.

Oddfellows

Loyal Acorn Lodge is a branch of The Oddfellows, the oldest Friendly Society.

We have social gatherings, once a month and we regularly use West Moors Memorial Hall along with other local venues to meet and socialise for friendship and companionship. We generally have a themed quiz, an afternoon buffet tea, a book stall, a bring and buy stall and a raffle and raise money for a different, chosen, local charity each year. This year’s charity is MacMillan Caring Locally.

We are aiming at anyone wishing for friendship, people can come alone or bring a friend or neighbour. If they feel it is just for them, they can become a member of Oddfellows for either £25 for a standard membership or £35 p.a for our benefit package.  Once you are a member you will then also be able to enjoy our business meetings which we hold on the third Monday of every month.

Mrs Flo Munro is our Social Secretary, to book a place and find out more details please contact her on 01202 820965.

West Moors Horticultural Society

West Moors Horticultural Society is a thriving organisation with approximately 500 members.

We hold two major shows per year. The Spring show in March includes a Daffodil championship. The Summer show in August includes a Dahlia championship and a fruit and vegetable section. Both shows include an element of Handicrafts, Floral Art and Homecraft.

In addition, we hold an annual plant sale, usually during the month of May so please do come along for a cup of coffee and to see what bargains you can get!  We hold eight talks a year on various subjects of interest, some of which include slide shows. We also have four outings per year.

Our coffee mornings are held in the Memorial Hall two mornings per year, in January and October. Anyone is welcome to come along for a coffee and a chat.

Writer's Study

Thursdays (once a fortnight)- 9.00am - 1.00pm

Welcoming any adult who wants to write.  Some people aspire to create short stories and articles or maybe a novel with a view to publication. Many wish to record their memories for the future family, whilst others, not desiring fame and fortune, just enjoy composing prose, poetry, scripts, anecdotes etc and perhaps trying their hand at competitions.  A few join simply to see if they can.  All are catered for by actively encouraging, analysing and critiquing their efforts. The aim is not only to inspire, but for us to have fun whilst doing it.

Zumba Gold

Thursdays 10am - 11am

A group fitness class that is less intense than a regular Zumba class. Suitable for anyone who hasn’t exercised before, or for a long time. Anyone recovering from illness or injury, or for anyone that is wanting a less intense workout. The majority of my participants are 50+ but the class is suitable for anyone. We combine strengthening exercises, balance, co-ordination & flexibility in a fun environment.
